The Principal’s Award 2023

The Principal’s Award is awarded to a matric learner who shows all round ability and who epitomises the spirit of Lotus High in academics, sport, culture, service and leadership.

This prestigious award is presented to Amar-Rah Kansley, a dedicated and accomplished Grade 12 learner, in recognition of her exceptional achievements, unwavering commitment, remarkable leadership skills, and the profound respect and admiration she has earned from her peers and educators.

In her academics, Amar-Rah has consistently produced strong academic results, putting her in the Top 3 in the grade, and reflecting her dedication to her studies and her relentless pursuit of excellence.  Amar-Rah’s passion for the English language and her commitment to academic excellence were recognized when she received a Merit award in the 2023 English Olympiad. This accolade underscores her language proficiency and her ability to excel in challenging academic competitions.

On the sporting side, Amar-Rah has played for the school’s Girls Volleyball Team and she is also a member of the Mitchells Plain Senior Ladies Volleyball Team.  Amar-Rah’s leadership as captain of the school team goes beyond her role on the court. Her competitive spirit inspires and motivates her teammates. Her dedication to the team fosters an environment of unity and camaraderie, and she is often seen as a mentor to her fellow players. Under her captaincy, the team has achieved significant success, regularly beating our local rivals.  Her commitment to the sport and her ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of players have contributed to the team’s success. She serves as an ambassador for her school and community through her involvement with the Mitchells Plain team.

Amar-Rah’s adventurous spirit is not limited to the volleyball court. She actively participates in school hiking programs that take place on weekends. Her love for the outdoors, combined with her physical endurance, allows her to fully embrace the challenges of hiking. These experiences contribute to her personal growth and resilience, making her a well-rounded and resourceful individual.

In her role as the Vice Chair of the Representative Council of Learners, Amar-Rah demonstrates exceptional leadership and advocacy for her fellow students. She plays a pivotal role in representing the student body’s interests, fostering a positive and inclusive school environment, and working closely with school to bring about positive changes. Her dedication to this position showcases her strong sense of responsibility and her commitment to making a difference in her school community.

As an engaged contributor to the school’s Bottom-Up program, Amar-Rah actively participates in initiatives aimed at improving the school’s overall atmosphere and academic performance. She embodies the principles of active citizenship and student leadership.

Amar-Rah’s commitment to her community is exemplified through her dedicated service in distributing food parcels to those in need. Her selflessness and compassion shine through as she volunteers her time on weekends to help provide essential support to vulnerable individuals and families. This community service reflects her caring and empathetic nature, as she strives to make a positive impact outside the school’s walls.

Amar-Rah’s extensive involvement in sport and cultureleadership, and service, both within and outside the school, are a testament to her multifaceted talents, commitment, and her dedication to making a positive difference in her school and community.

In light of her positive academic performance, exceptional leadership qualities, active community involvement, and her remarkable ability to foster positive relationships with her peers and educators, we proudly bestow the Principal’s Award upon Amar-Rah Kansley as a shining example of excellence, dedication, and achievement.
