OUR ECO CLUB
Lotus Goes Green
The Lotus High Eco Club is one of the most active and visible programmes at our school. Learners plant, tend, harvest and learn — growing fresh vegetables that go directly into the school feeding scheme.
When a learner plants a seed in October and eats it in a meal in December, something changes in them. They understand what it means to contribute.
The Eco Club meets regularly after school and teaches environmental stewardship, sustainability, basic horticulture and community responsibility. Open to all learners from Grade 8 to 12.
Veggie Garden
We grow chillies, kale, lettuce, spinach and seasonal vegetables. All produce goes directly into the school feeding scheme — supplementing meals for 400+ learners.
Garden Design
Our learners design as well as plant. The garden includes paved seating areas, planted beds, vegetable gardens, all built and maintained by Eco Club members.
Environmental Education
From composting to water conservation, our learners understand the environmental challenges facing their community — and what they can do about it.
Community Projects
The Eco Club extends beyond the school gates, with a fully functional nursery serving the Grassy Park Community.
Our Eco Club is running on passion and very little else. With proper support we can expand the veggie garden, install rainwater harvesting tanks, and develop a full sustainability curriculum.
