Lotus High is creating a dedicated matric zone that includes both a focused study area and a relaxed chill space designed specifically for our Grade 12 learners. The study room will offer tables, chairs, and computers to support serious exam preparation, while the adjacent chill space will provide a comfortable environment where learners can unwind with rugs, beanbags, a TV, a gaming console, and outdoor umbrellas. To bring this vision to life, we are inviting donations of The Answer Series CAPS guides, relevant textbooks, and items to furnish the chill zone. By supporting this initiative, you help us create a balanced environment where matrics can work hard, rest well, and feel valued during a demanding year.
Many schools have some sort of space in the school that is for Matrics only. It might be a quad, or a building, a classroom or there might be other things that are deemed a Matric privilege.
I am trying to create such a space for the Matrics at Lotus High. Last year we managed to finance a portion of vibracrete wall and some gates that has enabled us to isolate an area for the Matrics. It has two unused prefab classrooms, a set of prefab toilets (nice ones) and a garden area.
The plan is to convert one of the venues into a study room. We have the tables, chairs and computers to put in the venue.
What I do need is some of The Answer Series CAPS range in the following subjects:
- English HL/FAL
- Afrikaans HL/FAL
- Life Science
- Tourism
- Business Studies
- Consumer Studies
- History
- Maths
- Maths Literacy
- CAT
Also if you have any textbooks for these subjects, those would be useful too.
Also in that room will be motivational posters, Open Day posters for tertiary institutions, career choice pamphlets etc to create an expectation in the matrics that tertiary education is a viable option for them.
In the other venue, we are creating a chill out space for the matrics. Again we have some patio furniture that was donated recently to create a chilled vibey space. We will add a couple of computers for computer games. We are awaiting a donation of a TV screen for the venue which should arrive any day now.
In this space I need a rug or two, to soften the space which is classroom size. And if anyone has a bean bag or two, that would be great too. If there just so happens there is any gaming console (any type) looking for a home, I have the perfect place for it.
If you have anything else that you think could work in either the study room or the chill room, please let me know, we will gladly make use of it
If you have an outdoor umbrella or your company can sponsor 4 outdoor umbrellas, that would be great. We have an outdoor space to make use of too.
Help us to help our matrics by creating both a suitable study area and a recreational space for them. This will make the world of difference for our learners who do not have such a space at home.
