Our Matric Awards evening was a powerful celebration of the hard work and excellence of the Class of 2024. Following the matric briefing, learners and families gathered to recognise achievements across academic subjects and sporting codes. The Principal’s Award was presented to Josh Calvert in acknowledgment of leadership, resilience, and contribution to school life, while the Dux award went to Tesnay van Wyk for outstanding overall academic performance and multiple subject awards. We congratulate all award recipients and extend our thanks to the staff team who organised the event, prepared learners so diligently, and created a memorable evening that honours excellence at Lotus High.
The Matric breakfast and Valedictory were the order of the day.
As the final preparations were made to the Matric breakfast venue and tables, the Matric learners spent some time with their beloved Grade Head and Class Teacher, Mrs Joni. Mrs Joni entered fully into the emotion of the day by spending most of the morning in tears.
Soon however it was time for the breakfast. With stunning decor and layout it was evident that Miss Pietersen and Miss Grass had left no detail to chance. Everything was perfect. Mrs Steer prepared the food, deliciously I might add, and Mrs Fenton-Abrahams helped with setup and serving. An all round team effort. Thank you ladies.
Beautiful menu’s and place markers for each learner, greenery, photo backdrop, professional Bain-Marie’s and delicious food made the venue look fabulous. As the door opened and the matrics walked into the room, their faces were a joy to behold. They absolutely LOVED the surprise.
After the Grace delivered by Mr Price, the learners tucked into a hearty, tasty breakfast. Lots of photo’s and selfies taken, and much laughter and fun made the teachers smile because they could see their hard work had paid off.
After breakfast it was Valedictory time. The Class of 2024 filed into the Quad to the cheers and claps of the Grade 10’s and 11’s, their families and staff.
First up was a rousing rendition of the school song making up for the previous evening’s rendition, then short messages from Mr Price, the Principal, Mr Pietersen, our former Principal (prerecorded on video), another wonderful video of the matric class over the years, our Valedictorian Misqah Polwan and finally Mrs Joni, who, by this time had stopped crying long enough to deliver a wonderful speech.
As the music was turned up, the Class of 2024 and their families left through a Guard of Honour formed by the staff and the grade 10 and 11 learners.
A surprise visit from the Good Shepherd Church, Grassy Park with special matric care packs donated to the learners finished off the day on a high note. Our grateful thanks for the initiative from the Lay Ministers and Organisations of the Church.
To the Class of 2024, we wish you well as you prepare for the final NSC exams. Do your BEST, we are proud of you.
